Even back in the 1980's when first thinking of this walk, a pebble was key. To pick up a smooth pebble, put it in my pocket, backpack or treasure box (thank you so much Julie - how perfect!) and carry it with me for the length of the journey was important.
Hmmm ... but which one?
On New Year's Eve, in readiness for setting out, I chose my pebble and now along with the poem, my treasures are accumulating.
Hi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteThe selection of a pebble is an important tradition (apparently) on the 'Coast to Coast' Walk.
Hikers collect a pebble from the coast at the commencement of our walk (for us, from the beach at St. Bees), and carry it with them on their journey.
I am so glad that you chose your ebble as I was having a challenge in choosing one for you. Their were oval and rounded ones. Ones with 'interesting' shapes, and flecked ones. The most brilliant are always the ones that glisten like highly olished gems as the waves lap them.
